Danielle Baas
A Belgian composer of Amsterdam origin, born in 1958, Danielle Baas studied at the Jette Academy of Music and continued her training at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.

She is a laureate of several international composition prizes.

In 2001, she founded the flexible ensemble Mikrokosmos, whose aim is to promote the creation of Belgian works.

Fuga Prize 2004.

From 2005 to 2008, she founded and organized an annual Belgian music festival in Berchem-Sainte-Agathe called ‘Festival Emergence’.

SoundArt Radio in the UK will dedicate a program to her works in 2010.

In 2010, she organized the international concert ‘In the Footsteps of Chopin and Liszt’ by the European Trio Elisabeth Deletaille, Bruno Ispiola, and André Grignard, featuring a repertoire of Women of the World, which was a huge success and was reprised in Russia in 2011 and partially in Argentina.

Symphonic Project in France will dedicate a program to her chamber music.

Artistic Director of the Osmose Festival in Evere since 2015.

Recipient of the 2015 Fuga Prize (personal award).

Artistic Director of L’Heure Musicale in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean since May 2021.

President of the Union of Belgian Composers since late 2023.

Kris De Baerdemacker

Kris De Baerdemacker studied composition at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent with Godfried-Willem Raes. He composed his first works for player piano, for which he devised several dozen studies. They were successfully performed at festivals in Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, France, Lithuania, and elsewhere by the M&M ensemble of the Logos Foundation.

Later, he also began to focus on instrumental music and created several compositions for soloists and ensembles. The Nadar Ensemble, the Spectra Ensemble, the Collectief, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Ghent University Orchestra, Artis Dulcedo, the Kalès Guitar Quartet, and many others have performed his work. Kris De Baerdemacker’s music has been performed at various venues, including the Ghent International Organ Festival (2003), De Nieuwe Reeks (2006), Klarafestival Dendermonde (2006), the Ghent Week of Contemporary Music (2007, 2008), and the Transit Festival (2008).

In 2006, his first orchestral work, “Blending,” was selected for the Tactus Young Composers’ Forum and awarded a laureate prize.

Several recordings of his works have since been released on CD.

UBC Festival 2026

A huge thank you to Bruno Ispiola and Gauvain de Morant for the UBC Festival concert on February 1, 2026. What a beautiful concert, what beautiful works! Thank you to the composers for their warm presence. And thank you to the Wallonia-Brussels Federation – Music, Art and Life Department and to SABAM for allowing us to share such wonderful musical moments.

Meeting of Thursday February 5th, 2026 from 11h00 to 14h00

Dear Composers and Musicians,

The Belgian Composers’ Union (UCB) is organizing a meeting in the first quarter of 2026 for musicians—saxophonists and clarinetists, violinists, pianists—and UCB member composers (and publishers).

This meeting will allow us to choose the repertoire for the upcoming UCB 2027 concert.

Composers are invited to bring unpublished works, or published works, which you can give to the musicians free of charge.

  • for solo saxophone – for solo clarinet
  • for saxophone and piano duo / for clarinet and piano duo
  • for clarinet, violin, and piano trio
  • for clarinet quartet

to be presented to the musicians in attendance. This is contemporary classical music.

Please feel free to share this information with your contacts, musicians, and composers who wish to join or support the Union of Belgian Composers (UCB-UBC website).

We look forward to seeing you on Thursday, February 5th, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at SABAM, 41/43 Rue des Deux Eglises, 1000 Brussels, in the Expo Room, 1st floor.
